# Groundskeeper privacy

Groundskeeper runs locally. Folder scanning reads metadata. Exact-duplicate comparison reads candidate file contents locally; it does not upload them. Links, offline cloud placeholders, and inaccessible files are skipped or reported. Browser cache locations exclude history, cookies, passwords, and sessions.

Scans and comparisons are held in memory. Saved locations, protected-folder preferences, theme, and a bounded cleanup history of dates and counts are stored locally in the app's WebView storage. History does not store removed file paths. You can clear history and remove saved locations in the interface. No analytics, accounts, automatic cleanup, or background service is included.

Selected ordinary files are revalidated before Windows recycling. Recycle Bin contents still occupy disk space; restoring or emptying the bin happens in Windows. The installer may download Microsoft's WebView2 runtime if missing. No diagnostic data is uploaded automatically.
