# DiskGolf candidate check

This candidate targets Windows 11 x64. The supplied installer is unsigned. It installs for the current user; the portable ZIP runs without installation if WebView2 is already available. Neither package registers a startup task or background service.

## Independent machine check still needed

The developer-host installation and automated tests are documented in the release audit. Before a broad public release, repeat the following on a fresh Windows 11 installation or a separate ordinary-user PC:

1. Verify the installer checksum against SHA256SUMS.txt. Install without administrator elevation. Record any Windows reputation prompt rather than changing Windows security settings.
2. Choose a small test folder containing documents, nested folders, one empty folder, and a disposable file. Check the largest folder and file against Explorer. Try copying and revealing a path.
3. Start a larger scan, use the interface while it runs, and stop it. Partial results should remain available and clearly labeled.
4. Use the keyboard, resize the window, and try Windows display scaling at 150% or 200%. Check both themes and the preferences, help, and review dialogs.
5. Add only the disposable file to review. Confirm its full path, recycle it, and restore it from the Windows Recycle Bin. Its contents must match. Leave your other files out of this first check.
6. Export a diagnostic summary. It should contain version, scan state, counts, and elapsed time, with no paths or filenames.
7. Close and uninstall DiskGolf. Verify the installed executable and shortcut are removed and your scanned files remain unchanged. A retained theme preference is not scan history.

Record Windows version, display scaling, package checksum, what happened, and the diagnostic summary if relevant. Share feedback with the person who supplied the candidate. Public issue forms are included in the source for use when a repository is published.

## Scope limits

The scanner skips links and offline/cloud placeholders. Tests of offline attributes do not replace a live test with every cloud provider. Filesystem allocation and whole-drive usage can differ. Large scans use memory proportional to the number of entries. Network shares and other operating systems are outside this candidate's support target.
